    This is a video I made for my new students
    hopefully this will save some time and prevent mistakes in the shop
    I know that most of you know how read a depth micrometer
    give it a watch and tell me what you think

    Ray, I wonder how you will check for zero when you insert one of the longer rods? You did say something like, "Check for calibration each time you do this" after inserting the 0" to 1" rod. It wasn't clear that you only refer to calibration checks on that rod. Longer rods will protrude varying amounts, and would require quite a set of gage blocks for calibration checks.

    I am having some problems attaching photos
    When you change rods you must check calibration you do this for many reasons (bent rod – dirt or metal shavings inside under rod – dent on bottom of rod – and many more )
    To check calibration I use gauge blocks and a known surface

    I am having some problems attaching photos
    To calibrate the depth micrometre
    You adjust each rod (this can take some time)
    If you are going to adjust a rod size in a vice there is a chance of bending the rod during celebration
    Don’t do this with out help from some one who has experience
    There are multiple different styles of rod heads
    This example has a nut and 3 allen keys
