How many belts are needed to drive that multi shiv? 50? Or one with 50 ribs? I'm not surprised that shaft was destroyed and needed repair! I would think the shaft on that size drive would be 3X that dia.
Perhaps the repair is just to redo the worn diameter of the bearing or a bronze bushing. It may also be to seat a new larger bearing, or to repair a destroyed keyway.
One reason not to put the lathe against a wall. One never knows what kind of job may come in.
