I think the word you're looking for is "processed"...
They do apples in a very similar way.
In the past I have had watermelons that still had dirt on them. They obviously didn't go through this treatment.
I think one of the reasons I have large hands is I used to pull from the vines and toss a lot of watermelons and cantaloupes to a guy in the truck
