I am trying to figure out of the guys on the bottom have their feet on something, or if their feet are just on the ground?

Each of the "walkers" are effectively carrying a weight in excess of 1.5 people.

I see feet flat on the ground as well as feet with their toes in the air, like a crooked stack of pancakes.
