    Improved lathe controller.

    I have just made a new controller for my lathe conversion. It functions like the previous one but gives me more setup information. I made a quickie 5 minute video. The story to date is shown in this playlist;

    and the new video here;

    Beautiful redesign.Very nice logical layout and much improved. Love the dual function (high/low resolution) encoder.

    Within a few minutes of making that video I made a change to the encoder button action. For settings like feed and depth of cut the every day maximums would be around 1 mm which is hundred clicks, so with the x10 it would only take a third of a control revolution. However, say I wanted to set a 1 m (actually 0.99999 is the max number that can be entered) radius when doing a curve, say a crowned pulley for example, even on the x10 setting it would take 33 encoder revolutions.

    So instead of holding the button down whilst adjusting I modified the software so that I use click and release. The first click does x10, the second x100 and the third x1000. The next click returns to x1. So now to enter 99999 it only takes 4 encoder revolutions and 4 button clicks.

    Thanks for the kind words.
