Improvised chain oil filter wrench - GIF

Improvised chain oil filter wrench. Of course, having this much access to an oil filter is a dream.

that is really clever.....and it works so well !

even if the access is parallel to the filter body, you could still make a box-end wrench work; just need another wrench as a "cheater" to turn it.

    thanks for posting

Yup, great idea, will use it where possible.
Many years ago, I had a filter remover made by Snap-on it comprised a backing plate with a hex welded to one side and a spiral spring (clockwise) projecting from the other. when you wound it "on" the spring opened up to accommodate nearly any sized filter, as soon as you applied anti-clockwise rotation it locked on allowing you to unscrew the filter.
There are two troubles with it (1) Snap-on don't make them anymore, and (2) it was so good that someone stole it.
