Maybe he should have invented an inflatable closet to hang his coat in.

This does seem a bit like one of those solutions to a problem that nobody really has.

I agree with you clavius. It is a pathe video probably made in the mid 50's to mid 60's would be my guess. Here we are 60 years later after the invention was first filmed and we still dont seem to have had that problem popping up.

Well the man in the film did use it to wipe his forehead before he inflated it. Is that intended to show that the item has dual use? Maybe it was just to show that plastics, which were fairly new in those years, can be used to make many different things.

Yes indeed, it was an era that was all about the possibilities. But I guess time has proven that we still don't need an inflatable coat hanger!!
