Jefferson Smurfit had a paper recycling mill here in Lafayette IN. The public was not only allowed on site, but we could dump our paper & cardboard directly into the breakdown vat. The smell in that vat was unique. Not pleasant, but not bad enough to stop me from leaning over and watching the swirly slurry. The workers never even acknowledged us.

In retrospect it was crazy that anyone could come and go as they pleased.
