Hi All
Following on from my brake press build Press brake with bump and form tooling. I built a back stop with a calibrated counter. Enabling accurate setting and fine adjustment.
The back stop not only works with the brake press but can be removed and fitted to my homemade box pan folder Homemade Box Pan Folder (30 years ago)
The stop is a simple two rail system with a 16mm x 2mm pitch left hand threaded lead screw. The counter was purchased from eBay knowing one revolution was equivalent to 2mm. By discounting the counter via a grub screw the counter can be zeroed.
The actual stop can be raised and lowered to suit different tooling heights. The stop also is hinged so when the sheet material is bent/folded up the stop can move with the material and not jam up.
Great for repetitive bends and changing lengths and fine adjustments with the counter.
The photos below show the stop:
Stop fitted to the back of the brake press attachment.
Press brake fitted to hydraulic press.
Counter for calibrating back stop
Mounting bolts. (The same pitch bolts will be added to the box pan folder)
Back stop slotted and bolted in position.
Height adjustment.
Hinged stop in the lower position ready to have stock placed against it.
Hinge stop which can move with the material while being bent/folded.
Grub screw for calibrating counter. The knurled handle grub screw, releases the main lead screw from the counter so the counter can be set without the lead screw rotating.
There are commercially made back stops which are very expensive.
This stop has proven to be very accurate with the test I have made. I hope this has been of interest and thank you for viewing.
