Hello everyone.
Just joined, looks like a fantastic place to generate idea's. I have recently retired and love the idea of making jigs and things to make life easier. This place looks like everyone enjoys sharing their idea's, which is a joy in it's self. I trained as an industrial instrument maker and have an 1966 Austin Healey Sprite that I'm restoring.
All the best to everyone and thanks for your idea's................

Hi Yaculls - welcome to HomemadeTools.net :welcome:
Lots of recently retired folks here. :)
How is the Sprite restoration going? Building any interesting homemade tools along the way?

Hi Yaculls,
Welcome! :welcome:
Lots of car guys here (including me!); let's hear some more about your Sprite. How far along is the project?

Hey Yaculls, welcome to the forums! Used to have a 100-6, so would like to see what you're doing with your Sprite. :)

Thanks for the welcome. I've had the Sprite a few years now and just last winter I decided to take it of the road mainly because I wanted to take the engine out and repaint it. I also had a leak in the duel clutch/brake master cylinder (again) and wanted to improve the brakes. Anyway a long story short I removed the engine and decided to strip it, rebuild it and paint it, which I've just about completed. Just have to refit the head and rockers.
I have replaced the original master cylinder with two Tilton master cylinders, one for clutch and the other for brakes, I had to make a new peddle box for these, which I'm now happy with. I have also added the Frontline front brake upgrade and I'm going to fit the Frontline 5 speed T9 gearbox. So I have plenty of things going on to keep me occupied.
Anyway thanks for the welcomeAttachment 5703Attachment 5704Attachment 5705

Very, very cool! Nice work, too.
I've rebuilt a number of engines over the years (airplane and motorcycle), but couldn't summon the courage to build the engine for my current project car. I wound up getting it from a specialty race engine shop. Next time out, I'm planning to do it all myself.
Huge respect for your work on the Sprite. Let's see some video of it running!

Thanks Ken, will post some videos when I get it running. In between times here is some picks of me installing new cam bearings.

That's a pretty little thing! Even though old cars can be a pain to maintain, they have a nostalgic charm that new cars can't match.

Hi DIYer, I agree, they do have a certain charm and they are much simpler to fix. Not only that there are thousands of people with the skills and interest to keep them running. Here are a couple more photos of the new peddle box I made.

Neat! Looks like you have enough mechanical and fabrication skills to keep that car running for a long, long time.
