Just saying Hi
Hi guys.
Enjoy this site a great deal and have been picking up tips for a while now. I have a unimat SL 1000/db200 which is quite a neat machine (hate that chuck:smash:) and have converted it to 24 volt DC with a variable speed control. The main reason was that I have real bad Tinnitus and the pitch of the original motor really aggravated it. It really was a little screamer. I had new bearing fitted thinking that would take it down a peg but no difference. The 24 volt conversion works well and the motors pretty quiet. I'm playing around with the belt configuration at the moment as I read that using 2 belts has advantages over a single belt from motor to lathe pulley? Anyway, just saying hi and looking forward to meeting you all.....in time of course..

Hi Brad - welcome to HomemadeTools.net :welcome:
Sounds like you'll fit in nicely here. Post some pics of the conversion if you like, we'd love to take a look.

Hi Jon, thanks for the welcome, will post pic once I workout how:rofl: conversion is in MK1 form at the moment, working well though looks a little Heath Robinson to be sure, trying to find a post about running the unimat with both belts even though it now has variable speed, seems there is an advantage?
Cheers
Brad.
