Seeing how age/sun damaged the asphalt shingles are, I would not trust the nails holding the gutter to the fascia board. I could see the whole ladder coming down, with the ladder being slowed when it contacts the drip edge, which has no support as the sheathing boards are probably rotted as well.

As for the tool, you have to get up on the ladder to clip it in place, probably makes a bad ladder placement 'feel' good to the fools trusting not to "brace for crash".

Then there are fools that must put holiday lights up, in the name of showing what cult they are members of, and die via death by ladder.

[QUOTE=metric_taper;252787]Seeing how age/sun damaged the asphalt shingles are, I would not trust the nails holding the gutter to the fascia board.

I've grabbed spikes by the head & pulled them out of the fascia in roofs that worn. Trusting a gutter held up by anything commonly used won't give you safety. Maybe it'll steady the ladder but if you need it to save your butt my guess is some part of the gutter or the fasteners will fail & literally let you down.
