I have wondered about making a new cross slide to be used for special kinds of set-up in place of the standard cast iron one that came on my lathe. Any thoughts on using steel plate instead of cast-iron for something like this.

No rush, as this in on my "someday" list, closer to the bottom than the top. Just curious.
