Lathe steady

I am wanting to build a centre steady to turn a walking stick. Most plans fit a traditional lathe bed of two rails with a centre slot but mine is a Vicmarc that has a flat sheet steel base with a 70 mm steel tube above. Just after ideas to mount centre steady to base

Is the steel tube elevated above the bed? Can you make a split connector to attach the rest to the tube?

Similar to a connecting rod.
