A buddy of mine did this exact thing. Support the machine with the hydraulics then start loosening off the hydraulics. Genius.

If you guys will look real close you will see that the bucket is laying on a dump body or a box, 4 crane slings are attached to it in an attempt to lift it off of what it is resting on. The loader is most likely broke down otherwise why the cables. They can't lift the bucket and the front of the loader so the guy has loosened off the lift cylinder lines, these would be the lines going to the rod end of the cylinders allowing them to extend. In no way can the machine ever get lower to the ground than the natural ground clearance as long as the tires are not flat. The only danger the mechanic was in would have been an oil bath but that oil could be scalding hot

Or, if he had his foot under the tire. But I agree, they were planning in the machine settling down when he loosened the fitting. They need to free the truck that was trapped under the bucket.
