That looks way too pretty to be used as a whacking utensil.
Since the grade 8 bolt can be cut with a hacksaw, why use an angle grinder on the lathe? Wouldn't a HSS cutter do a more precise and faster job? Besides, grinding dust on lathe ways is not good.

Sorry, my mistake- I didn’t notice you had chucked up the bolt in a wood turning lathe.
I do suggest you cover your ways with a cloth when grinding.

Cover the ways with a cloth. Your tailstock rides on the lathe’s ways. That grinding grit is bad.
