Hi servant74 - welcome to HomemadeTools.net :welcome:
Great avatar! So what kind of stuff are you looking to build?
I am a retired software geek, developer, sysadmin, administrator, systems analyst, basically total computer geek for 35 years. Now retired, and finding something else to do (other than strictly honey-do's <grin>).
I love seeing what other people are doing. My most recent builds are benches for outdoor porch for the wife Attachment 6829, and an under cabinet knife storage Attachment 6828 for my daughter.
Plus a few small things here and there. Having little room for a shop keeps me limited on what I do build, even when I would like to do much more.
These images are not my projects, but look very similar.
I tend to learn by watching others, then apply it in my own way. It turns out OK more often than causing mistakes, but it keeps me busy as I want to be.
Hi servant74,
Welcome! :welcome:
I just had the "what's the cloud" conversation with my elderly mother a week or so ago. Your avatar sums it up better at a glance than I managed in half an hour.
What sort of homemade tools do you like best?
Ken
As a software geek, and son of mechanical engineer, making things was in my DNA, whether virtual or physical.
A couple of long term current projects are building a CNC router and a 3D Printer. My dream would be a Mechmate.com style CNC machine, but more likely is a small gantry to route 2'x4'x4" or so. The 3D Printer that is started is a Reprap Mindel (the kind made with lots of all-thread). But some health issues and the holidays are slowing those projects down.
I have made tools to hold the tongue of a trailer to roll around our garage, various worktables from time to time, need to do some simple cabinetry for both a shop and my dauthers garage. I have the start on converting a small log cabin into a shed (but it has started growing junk rather than workshop stuff). I have the starts of the conversion here: VIdeo1 - It was piled waste deep in trash including a sofa someone had tried to set on fire. All the junk is out and I did put in a floor on 2x6 joists, but still needs to 'critter proof' the sides and make them water repellent. It is about 13'x17' inside. 2 windows that open, 1 door that can open just top half if desired. Yes, this was done a long time ago, but I just haven't had the energy. Good intentions and all that.
Lots of potential there. You know the log buildings are old when some of the chinking is wider than the logs. It reminded me of a 1924 log cabin restaurant near us; the chinking has visually overtaken the log.
