Maybe I missed it, but why not use the alignment bolts for the clamping force as well? It would require having multiple bolt lengths or changing to threaded rod and two nuts (and washers). Stacking a a nylon washer between two steel ones would make them tighten easily. The nylon washers can take the pressure. I use them under the tuning knobs of my headless basses and guitars, which see well over 100lb of tension per string. It's not as smooth as UHMW, but doesn't mush out when tightened.

I tried to keep it as simple as possible. Because of the size, and the area that it's intended to serve, I figured it would be difficult tightening as you'd be bumping into things. Still possible and you had some great ideas to go along with it, just a few thoughts I had when making them.
