    I would think it is more a render or plaster mix than concrete but clever stuff.

    Quite common to see these types of designs on the ceilings of homes in the Middle East. The ones which are cut in place are almost always made of a super lightweight plaster cement mortar material other wise in a very few short years they begin to become death from above objects. One way of preventing that from happening is to jack hammer the ceiling in several places to give the cement a tooth or roots in the ceiling another way is to embed anchor bolts and hang a lathing screen in addition to the pockets formed by the jack hammers. Fresh poured ceilings where the concrete is just barely cured enough to remove the support forms will fair a lot better than old construction

    And here in the west, we go to Home Depot, purchase a medallion made of molded plastic, and glue it to the ceiling. Lost arts, man.

    Yep and we get what we pay for. a worthless piece of plastic that will look ugly in a few years
