    Making Custom Screwdrivers

Recently I was called on to make a custom screwdriver. Using stock hex bits and some acetal plastic rod, I was able to produce a rather serviceable tool.

Nice! But don't use those garbage DeWalt bits. They are cheese grade garbage. They round off after only a couple uses.

I mean, it doesn't impact your build at all. Just swap the bits for something that will last longer than 25 seconds.

I agree DeWalt tools are not the quality they used to be it is now overpriced average, for what its worth I have used Erbauer posi bits with good results, For a budget item they have lasted well, I bought a pack of 20 about 10 years ago and still have 6 left. (disclaimer).

I don't find DeWalt tooling in general to be too bad. But the bits are atrocious. They're much worse now than 10 years ago. They are unbelievably horrible. For ****s and giggles try buying a new set from the hardware store. I have rounded them off on a single Robertson screw. That's insane. I have a small business and had to tell people to just stop buying them. Compare that to the El Cheapo Home Hardware generic bin bits that tend to last me about 3 months (approximately 200 screws). There's no way there should be a 100x difference in life between bits that cost $2 and DeWalt bits that cost twice as much.

Was a bit disappointed that the bits could not be removed or replaced. Kind of limits the tool. Some long bits have differant sizes on each end thus my disappointment. Otherwise, nice job.

I wanted to make the bits removable but the customer said no. She said it will occasionally be used to pry.
