Making Dowels

Traditional way of making dowels in any wood that is required ,much better than shitty dowels made of soft pine.
First step is easy rip stock a little oversize ,in this case making 3/8" dowels to repair an oak chair so ripped at 10-10.5mm, cut to manageable lengths then drive thru a series of ever decreasing holes in steel dowel plate easing leading edge where necessary.
To make dowel plate drill ever decreasing sized holes with every drill bit at hand, this plate is one made in a hurry out of 1/8 bar for this size many years ago ,must add the rest of the holes one day.
When drilling holes in dowel plate drill 2 holes of fixed sizes 3,4,5,6,8,10.....mm and 1/4" 3/8".......etc and on the edge of second hole throw up a spur with a sharp centre punch so finished dowel can be driven thru to put the glue groove in edge.
