I've tried to make a chef knife from a sawblade but I had to give up, the steel was just too tough to work with.
The grinding belts kept worning out before I could reach the thickness I was looking for, as well as the file, it seemed to work less as I went grinding.
I've tried some "home" annealing processes, I also left it in the firepit overnight, but nothing seemed to work.
I'm curious to know if you noticed such thing too.
