Making a metal scribe
In this video I make a metal scribe from a broken M6 tap and a steel rod. I ground the tip of the scribe on my disk sander by spinning it in a drill.
The tap was welded on a steel rod and while it was red hot I hit it with a hammer to center it which is a really useful technique.
I then used a file and a disk sander to shape so that it is comfortable to hold.
This is a project that I should have done a long time ago as it is now my main tool for laying out in metal.
Hope you enjoy and thanks for watching. Please like, comment and subscribe

Nice one. A broken tap would indeed make a good scribe.

I thought there would be a lot of grinding. Spinning the tap on a drill is great idea. Been grinding points by hand all these years.

It is much more precise than hand grinding but for this scribe it really doesn't matter that much if it's in center or a bit off as long as it's pointy. Thank you.
