Making miniature nut drivers

I really like the little round vise in the photo, Is that another one of your creations? very neat.

I never found the handle very useful so I removed it and turned a fitting so it can be clamped to the work table. Also, as supplied, the pins are only a sloppy fit in the holes and things clamped with them tend to "squeeze" upward freeing themselves. I measured the holes with pin gauges and turned some very close-fitting pins. That solved that problem.

Although the picture shows it used as a more ordinary pinch vise, its real forte is clamping odd-shaped objects not easily held in a conventional vise. In addition to the pins themselves, one can make little corners or radiused jaws to fit over the pins. The pins can fit inside cavities on certain parts and thus hold it with its exposed surface fully available for filing, painting, etc.

A very versatile tool that probably belongs in the arsenal of anyone who deals with small intricate, hard-to-hold parts.

As if I don't waste enough of my time on this wonderful website. Now I have to hard boil an egg and give it a spin to satisfy myself that this will really work. I am assuming it has something to do with gyroscopic precession but perhaps there is a simpler explanation. Can anyone enlighten me?

Couldn't wait for an answer so I Googled it as I should have done in the first place. Apparently the problem has been studied for hundreds of years and was only solved in 2002.

Marv, Strikes again! I tell you man, thisis a GREAT idea!!!!!! I'll be looking to see what all I have that can be used for the same reason for odd-ball side nuts and even 6 point bolt heads that I have and making them from either stainless or just plain ole steel allen drive type bolts to fit those I have and not got a good mini nut driver to fit.....

LOVE IT so simple....... Almost too simple!

NAHHHHH this one is GREAT!!!!! I'll be looking to see what all allen head bolts I have just for this very reason (I'm SURE, I've got plenty to work with!!!!)
