I had a similar experience but with wasps not bees. I had to run for 0.5 km before they stopped attacking. Unlike the chap in the video I only had a Tee shirt on. It was not an experience that I would like to repeat.

Same here but with hornets! Moved a piece of plywood that had been laying on the ground for a couple of years. Lifted the edge to get a grip and started feeling needle stick on my ankles. They were grabbing my socks and stinging my legs through them multiple times! Ran about 100 yards then smashed the ones on my legs. Went back later with a jar full of gas and some matches. I turned the jar over on top of the hole and most of them were trapped. Ran in, kicked the jar away and dropped a match in the hole. No more hornets!

Very similar. I was digging out an unwanted Yuka plant/tree and disturbed the nest. Until then I had no idea that they had nests under ground. I went back at dusk because I know that they get very dopey at that time and like you I poured petrol down the hole and lit it. We get plenty of nests above ground in odd places, once I found one inside the handle of a wheel barrow. Wasps and mozzies are the only animals that I am not sorry to destroy.
I am unsure of the difference between hornets and wasps, I have always thought that it was just a question of local vocabuary.

I guess the hornet is a subspecies of wasp but different in color and size. The hornet is generally larger than a wasp. This is the best explanation I could find:
