Manual Grinder

I found this while going through some old photos today. Saw it in Haiti while on a mission trip there in 2003. It was just sitting on the side of the road. There was no one around who seemed to be attached to it. I did take the liberty of spinning the wheel a few times. It worked very well. The treadle in photo 2 was crude but it did work. I am often impressed with the, "make due with what you have" kind of engineering.

Judging by the photos, that DIY grinder seems to get a lot of use. Possibly much more than the average store bought unit that sits in most people's garages.

Any wondering wheel diameter was larger when first installed?
