Newbies yes. They forgot one step in the process. There is another part on the tool which can be seen at the :08 mark right after cutting the line which is a piece of steel with tapered ends that they need to flip up and pull the arms together. This will push into both ends of tubing and "flare" both ends of the tubes at the same time allowing the fitting to start straight and easy with much less effort than they used.
