Seems to me the "fireman" should have come slowed way earlier and come at that from astern with the water cannon already active. The water stream aimed from stern to bow to knock down the majority of the flames. Then come along side if required to finish it off.
With those 5 big outboards, there had to be a huge gasoline supply feeding the fire. Water is not the best solution for that unless you can get a dense mist to the base of the flames.
But I have never been a fireman, so I could be totally wrong.

A professional team would have approached from the stern since it was the up-wind direction the pump would have been engaged and brought to bear while they were still on their approach. This would have given them a measure of their cannon's optimal distance for the maximum effect of the water stream and the wind would have been of assistance. There is one other advantage to coming in from behind. All pleasure boats have larger hatchway openings facing aft.
Never try to tell me it can't be done
When I have to paint I use KBS products
