    Marking gauce with micro adjustment

Hi guys, I design a marking gauge with micro adjustment and would like to build it soon.

I wanted a marking gauge to be small to fit in my hand to mark sheet metal, aluminium and sometimes stainless steel I attached a photo for you to see, full plans available also.

    Cheers

    Two suggestions...

If you're going to use it on metal (you mentioned stainless), making the part that slides on the stock from brass probably isn't the best choice. It will wear quickly. Steel, or at least a steel wear plate, would be a better choice.

The part that bears on the stock seems rather narrow which could lead to rocking in use. You might want to think about making it a bit wider.

I'll look forward to seeing the finished product.

I concur that many materials will abrade brass. The qualities of brass suit it to this type of instrument otherwise. With access to a grinder and whetstone or surface grinder, my inclination would insert 2 bearing balls to the foot. Once you flatten them proud of what would have been the surface of foot, they should glide over anything your scribe will mark. I never thought of a microadjust marking gauge, but had a similar tool. It had 2 dowel pins, and two rails. 1 dowel sticking through the tierod, one through the body. The upper ends were precisely ground flat to the centerline for setting with micrometer or caliper. Both foot and 'tierod' were heat treated 01. I don't have a photo [way too long ago], but could do a sketch.
    Now I want another!

Hi, I like your design. Would you be willing to share your CAD files of the design?

    Hi,
A classical but weel finished idea, the use of a hard metal plate in front can be a solution if you warnt to stay with brass.

Yes, I'm disappointed that you would call it your design too: the drawings - for everybody else - are here:
Mini lathe/mill project No.4 Marking gauge
Ken came up with a very noce design, didn't he?
I hope Ken gets his tool listed here!
    Cheers,
    Joe

    You didn't design this.

Hi guys, I design a marking gauge with micro adjustment and would like to build it soon.
I downloaded the details of this tool several years ago !
The only bit that I see that could be called yours, is the bit of steel plate that you added to the picture. In my book that that is unacceptable practice to attempt to call this tool yours.
