Joke? I was serious.
Just as well though. I'm building a hydraulic bearing press with one of my design constraints being that I couldn't spend a penny on anything other than electricity for the welder and oxygen/acetylene, i.e. it had to be made from my collection of materials, and it's coming along with the stock that I already had. The stand and the press frame are done and I probably will finish it tomorrow. I used various steel pieces from my pile, a hydraulic jack that's been bouncing around in the back of my truck for years, a couple of dirt bike front springs from a dumpster and some industrial rack channel also from a dumpster. I may have to break my rule though and buy paint because the only paint that I have in enough quantity is latex and it's turning out too good to leave it unpainted.
I thought I was going to have to buy another pair of welding gloves to replace the Lincoln gloves I just bought a month ago because I burnt up the end of the right index finger and it split open, but I cut off the thumb from an old pair of gloves and cemented it over the split end and now I'm good to go for a while longer. I guess I probably burn my rods too close to the handle before I stop.
If you can't make it precise make it adjustable.
