Not understanding how the minds of folks who own or drive cars like that I have an even lower understanding of why even make the cluster foldaway

Because in the minds of the designers they think the minds of the purchasers will be of half a mind to pretend when they are speeding down the highway they would like to believe they are on a racetrack and the big dials are a distraction so they go for the low profile, minimal info, gear, tacho, probably a shift light, not much more.

That type of automobile is called a "I have one and you don't" car. Some might say that these products are ludicrous, but in my opinion they are essential in the fact that they help keep the rich mans money in circulation as well as satisfying hungry egos.
