    even with no load, used for demonstration purposes, that will not last very long with no lubrication. I hope they squirt some on from time to time.

    Brings back many memories. Worked on many of these transmissions.
    Nice and simple. It did have a few issues though.

    It looks like the larger bevel gears don't mesh just right. Do they vary somehow while in operation??

    We have to asssume this cutaway demonstration assembly was not set-p with the correct backlash etc, that you would expect in an operational gear set. We have a pretty good idea just from the sounds that these settings are not exact.
