It's indeed a masterful example of craftsmanship. Actually playing on it though would be difficult. Aside from having to use tweezers to move the pieces is the problem of bumping the board or displacing pieces with the tweezers. Each square should have a small blind circular depression the diameter of the base of the pieces to help anchor each piece to its square in the event of a disturbance.
This set appears to be a bit smaller than the one made for Queen Mary's dollhouse...
