Mill Vise Stop Version 2...Get 2 for 1...with plans and 3D print files
Version 2 came about when I noticed that version 1
had enough parts in it to be a good start for 2 separate stops.

There are a few notes of interest for V1 and V2. Mainly note that the
Joints can be either "Left Hand" or "Right Hand". It is not a big deal but makes
it easier to access the SHCS (allen screws) for tightening the Joints to their rods.
Advantage2. Both ends of the main support Rod can have an external thread.
Now you have a stop that can fit on two different vises. (This is my case). Just put
a .187 Tommy Bar hole near the center of the main support rod so you can
tighten it into the vise you are using. Also note that you don't need the Tommy Bar
since you can clamp the Joint on the support rod and use the joint to tighten/loosen
the support rod to the vise. Tommy just makes it a bit easier. One example of this
support rod has a 10-32 SHCS in the outboard end. This is used to secure or remove the
rod into the vise rod mounting hole. Handy if you only need one type of rod end thread
on all your vises.
You can see this Left/Right hand difference in the picture posted of the 3D
printed pair of joints connected to a single rod. It is simply the position of the
flats on each joint. If you pick the proper hand for your use
then you can orient the SHCS to face to the front of back most will use joint2.
Just makes it a bit easier to access the SHCS. The 3D printed joints do work however
they do not grip as tight as the brass joints so I don't recommend using them for
actual work. I just like to 3D print some of my parts to make sure they will make good parts.
Stop Rod. The stop rod may be shortened. You may want to shorten yours if you prefer to
orient the stop rod from the bottom to give more clearance for a milling cutter that may
hit the Joint if you oriented the stop rod on the top. Make two rods, one long and one short.
Stop Pin and Knurled Knob. Knob is drilled and tapped 10-32 Thru.
The rod length may be whatever you need up to 4 inches long for a 4 inch vise.
Optionally make more than one rod. Use All thread and just turn down
an inch or so for the "stop end".
