This went along the lines of many of my projects: The old way works, but is a bit of a nuisance.
Buy a new saw. Make a spindle for the new saw.
Figure a way to hold the piece so you can use the new saw. Modify the table so it can hold the piece, and modify the table so the table can be held.
Try the new saw. Try an older saw. Try an even older saw.
Finally, it all comes together and works just great.

It will take you a few years of adjusting the angle to make up the time you "wasted" making the new adjustment method, but is was fun doing it and nobody ever did it that way before!
