This went along the lines of many of my projects: The old way works, but is a bit of a nuisance.
Buy a new saw. Make a spindle for the new saw.
Figure a way to hold the piece so you can use the new saw. Modify the table so it can hold the piece, and modify the table so the table can be held.
Try the new saw. Try an older saw. Try an even older saw.
Finally, it all comes together and works just great.

It will take you a few years of adjusting the angle to make up the time you "wasted" making the new adjustment method, but is was fun doing it and nobody ever did it that way before!

    Thanks for the share.

Been looking at a lot of ways to modify the compound on a mini-lathe, and I believe this is the most elegant.

Yes, indeed. Next step: Invent the no-doubt Zero degrees stop; invent a precise method to set the most frequent angles - without iteration.

    Compound Swivel Lock

Thanks for posting your video! It is good to see how others attempt to solve an obvious shortcoming of the minilathe. We have all struggled with this until we got tired of fighting it.
A few years ago I converted my minilathe compound swivel to a clone of the South Bend compound swivel locking method. The best mod I made for my minilathe!
