Mini Lathe Compound Pivot Lock Modification Plans

I have owned a 7 X 16 MicroMark mini lathe for about 6 years and have used it extensively for turning and for light milling. Over that time I made several improvements to the machine when need dictated. One feature of the little lathe really bugged me and that was the way the compound was locked down after setting an angle. The locking screws are located under the top section of the 2 piece compound and are inaccessible from the top when trying to set an accurate angle. I fought with this insane design for a while before deciding I needed to do something different. I was tired of cranking the compound back and forth using an indicator to set an angle and then get things just about right, only to have it slip when I cranked it back to lock the setting. Enough of this nonsense! I had owned several lathes over the years and liked the method used by Logan and South Bend which utilize a circular dovetail clamping method and decided to design that system to fit into the mini lathe compound. There is nothing original on my part here-I simply put it all into a neatly detailed and dimensioned CAD drawing. The difference between the original system and what I have now is like night and day. It is so easy to set perfect angles now and all the frustration is gone now! For my first test project I chose to make several 8mm watchmakers arbors to fit the collet spindle of my Quorn cutter grinder. It was an easy job, to say the least, to produce nice fitting tapers. This modification was worth my effort to do. This project requires 3 holes to be drilled and tapped (2 at 45 degree angles) into the cross slide and also 3 holes drilled and tapped in the bottom underside of the compound.
