Mo better scrap bin ER32 collet wrench

Hi folks

This one occured just as I was about to leave the workshop to go to bed, always the way..

A friend of mine came round with a box of all sorts for me earlier today and amongst it was a "multi" tool. I didn't pay great attention to it at first and only just noticed it has a hook spanner, which to my delight, fits my ER32 chuck and collet nut.

As fortunes go, I had a handle from a crappy and broken drill press attachment kicking about, and as I'd unlikely ever need the two small hex spanners found on the oposite end of the tool, I used the spanner holes to assist in bolting the two items together.

To my surprise the spanner, while it is obviously pressed, it's made of sterner stuff than the chinesium monkey metal I was expecting and I can get some proper big boy leverage behind this one :)

The angle the spanner protrudes at is also rather handy as I don't have a lot of room around the right hand side of my mill and it allows me to keep the handle up front or to the left of the machine where there's elbow room.

Cool fi nd and build looks like the hook spanner was made for the collet nut

this is an old cycle spanner that use to be supplied with new bikes back in the day

Owned lots of bikes but I never bought a new one, wouldn't have done me any good anyway since the first thing I always did was strip them to the frame and build them how I thought they should have been built.Normally I tried to buy basket cases because they saved me the trouble of tearing them down. I did buy 1 Norton Commando that I rode 500 miles home on before tearing it down nothing ever had a tool kit as I remember though.

Ah, that'll explain it's hardiness then. Though I tentatively tried at first, I couldn't even bend a corner of it and it's been great to use from the get go.
