    Typically, a cut has a fill-area near by. There is no area along the entire highway that shows any earth fill!

    China has been building islands south of the mainland for quite a while. It's possible that the spoil was used for that operation.

    That would be the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea. I believe that work is done by local dredging. Dirt transportation costs would be prohibitive...even for China! :-)

    It looks like an Engineering School "concept" for road construction, rendered using A.I.
    I suspect tunnels to be cheaper, material removal less burdensome, and in the long run cheaper to maintain over time. But hey, what do I know?
