Dirt Trackers use "Shoes". Old school were Steel plate formed over the toe and a bottom plate, lashed onto the boot that were worn typically on the left foot for circle track counter clockwise. Keeps an expensive boot from being shredded in a race or two. I think they might be using an aluminum version them in GP bike races now too but much lighter. I've got a poster somewhere of GP racers boot shredded on a 6 cylinder 250 Honda (RC166 iirc) scrubbing a burm at speed, but can't remember who was riding....Mike Hailwood maybe or someone that vintage.
Amazing what shows up for me sometimes with some of these posts, Jon...Thanks got a grin from the memory banks.
