Mushroom hunting basket with ground spike. I guess it's for holding the basket in the ground while you pick mushrooms.

I couldn't say. I don't eat mushrooms. It could be a basket for truffles as well the spike could be for assisting in probing the ground to find them. I don't eat truffles either.

Handy way to not set the basket in mud and have a way to fight off other mushroom hunters.
