    It looks kind of like a combine so I say its for cutting or mowing. Given that the cab is sideways I would say whatever is going on under the deck is most important, and with what looks like a bumper on the far side uprights I think it is for mowing under something.

    Notice also the single upright in the rear is topped with a trailer ball which is a common method on older skid steers of mounting accessories like back hoes and such.

    Posably it could be meant to pick up nuts or something off the ground under a low growing tree like a chestnut?

    I believe "In the Grove " has got it. It looks like a home grown solution to a problem. The problem "Job" looks like laying down large rolls of mats. Often these type of mats are used for asphalt underlayment. Just prior to asphalt being applied the road surface is oiled then the rolled underlayment is placed down the asphalt is applied and rolled. Forms a very stable road bed when the substrate is not stable and needing help with bonding improvement.
