New to homemade tool

I a retired Veteran. I served 20 yrs in the Coast Guard. I retired way back in 1992. I have had several careers since then. I officially retired when I turned 65. Right now I live in a apartment, but sometime in the early spring of 2017. I will be in my own house. I am a experienced carpenter/ cabinet maker. I also have been known to wood and metal lathe work.
Right now I am in the process of building a 2 x 72 belt grinder. I picked up a new hobby. I am making knives. I have 6 to complete by Christmas. I have already built my gas fired forge for heat treatment of the knife blanks.
