Hi Brian, thanks for your interest in these chamfer planes. I make them in batches of 50 or so using Afzelia which is an African hardwood known for great stability. I machine a vee groove into lengths of timber to make the fences. The plane itself has a brass sole bonded with an industrial super glue. Then blade is O1 steel which I send out for correct heat treatment.I make the brass knurled nuts , easier now that I have acquired a quick knurler.The plane can slide across the fence housing so that one can use the entire width of the blade. Very useful tool for furniture making. One needs to be consistently quite accurate to make batches of these eg the plane must have a tight fit in the housing.I use a tee slot cutter to mill the slots for the plane to fit.![]()
