Newbie here...be gentle
Hi guys and gals...newbie here. Broke down and bought a Hobart 140 Handler over the weekend. I used to have a Miller, but hardly ever used it, so down the road it went. I forget what model it was, but I got an expensive Miller for dirt cheap...220 volt. So I decided to go the 115 volt route.
I have a street rod we built and I had gown tired of having to rely on friends to either bring their welder by or my having to go there.
I took a general welding class about 6 years ago and decided that MIG was the way to go, so I'm getting back into the swing of things. I am NOT a certified welder, just a hobbyist that when something breaks on the tractor or some other yard implement, I can weld it back together myself.
I saw a welding cart on here that I am really interested in. the one at Northern Tool is flimsy and too rich for my taste, so I will be dropping that member a note. :)

Hi Lugnut,
Welcome! :welcome:
That street rod looks great! Let's see some more pics. What are the specs? Lots of car guys here, so you'll fit right in!
Which welding cart caught your eye?

Ken,
Thank you very much for welcome. the cart that caught my eye was built by, oh heck I can't recall his name, but he built it back in '09..and utilized an office cabinet.
Specs on my t-bucket: running a Ford FE402, C-6 tranny; aluminum Edelbrock Performance heads, Ford factory tri-power; mild comp cam with, Attachment 6478just enough lope" to let everyone know I am in the area. Frame is polished stainless steel and anything else that is shiny is either polished brass, aluminum, stainless or chrome. color is Jerry's Kustom Kandy Green metallic/pearl...top color is 2014 Chrysler Caravan Sandstone/cashmere pearl. Has a Winter's Champion V8 polished quick change. What else??? Oh and it's a DRIVER with over 20k on the clock. I have done two Hot Rod Power Tours round trip in this bucket...most times WITHOUT a top.
Guess I'll have to spend sometime later this evening on how to post photos. Every website is just a bit different.

Very, very cool. I thought that looked like an FE from the first pic. I've still got a set of NOS valves around here somewhere for a 427 side oiler…
I'd love to hear about those two Power Tours. I'm just finishing up an Ultima GTR (not a hot rod, of course) and can't quite get my head around the idea of driving it thousands of miles across the country. Of course, I flew my homebuilt airplane all over the place, but that somehow never seemed as intimidating as having the car away from its garage, tools, etc.

You people are so far ahead of me that it is shameful, the type of hobbies that appeals to me is rebuilding guns, barrel rifling, which I am now try to find out out the simplest method to produce the rifling.
Congratulations on all excellent projects that you are working on and the ones that are finished.

Hi George,
Welcome! :welcome:
Lots of long-time shooters around here (including me); what sort of guns have you rebuilt? Let's see some pics!

Ken,
I'll get back to you later this evening regarding the Power Tour and the pros/cons. I'm sitting here trying to determine the marque I see in your avatar...Porsche? Ferrari? Prolly neither one, but does resemble more a Porsche.

It's an Ultima GTR - an English kit car meant to resemble the classic Group C cars, but not a replica of any one in particular. Mine is nearly done (I mailed the title application paperwork yesterday) and I'll replace the avatar in a month or so once I've got the car on the road.
I'm running a 700+HP LS7 with a Porsche G50 transaxle - the combination should be good for 230 MPH.
