I don’t agree with your practicality score of zero for this. The use of non-Newtonian fluid in this application would reward the drivers that go slow whilst punishing those who won’t slow down. I think giving it a nastier profile, such as the removable speed bumps fitted outside construction jobs, would make it more effective.
Very clever idea. It seems like that bladder would get ruined in a hurry though. Some idiot in a Honda Civic is going to floor it as they're passing over. There was a wooden bridge near my house when I was growing up and they did the same. It was a fun game for jerks with Civics that had stickers and squash launcher exhausts to rip up all the wood surface on the bridge.
I'm sure a similar design could be made with a mechanical shock absorber, or a passive hydraulic ram. Although I don't think those would last a very long time either.
I've known the time when I threatened to dump a couple yards of asphalt across the road where I lived. Fortunately I didn't have to spend my own money. A couple of young Kuwaiti youths were struck one day not seriously injured but by that evening the Ministry was spreading asphalt speed bumps every 75 meters. Speed bumps are a nuisance but when there are people with no regard for residential areas Hospital or school zones, they are necessary sometimes.
I agree Frank, as the street in front of the grand kids house seems to be a 1/4 mile track for misbehaving clownwads. Even the one lane road we are on has them...almost used a broom handle on one, on a dirt bike with an expansion chamber...and I like bike people generally but this guy was hitting 60 into a blind corner.
However the height is an issue with low slung cars like my SC. I have dinked/cracked the rubber/ABS(?) air dam several times and cracked it going slow (Full Stop, creap up) because the height of the burm was too steep and high!!...even approaching at an angle. They should be standardized to accommodate All Vehicles...or mount Radar linked mini guns or laws rockets and take clownwads out as they reach 10mph over the limit.
And Jon...don't for get the cost compared to asphalt...F...but novel a Cute...Practical and efficient...nah!
Part of our street has some speed bumps (about 800metres) but every year or so the local council grades the road for the donut twits.Quote:

Nice hair net not. Oodles of noodles. Cant imagine the amount of practice to get it right & wouldn't need to go to a Gym.
