A novel workshop hook for your jacket or cloths

This is a fun project to make from some scrap steel, the hook is a useful addition to our workshop and will get people talking as they try to figure out how it works

I knew exactly what this was and how it works.

Why?

Because we have something like this in the laundry room magnetically attached to the washing machine:



It's two pieces of wood glued together with a curved sloped slot for a marble. If you look closely, you can see the wood seam where it is glued together:



And the marble rolls up and down to hold the towel:



We have had this for at least 30 years... what is old is new...

Looks like a good candidate for 3D printing. Should be able to drop in the steel ball while printing so no assembly would be needed.

Rick, That sound like a plan - I think it'd work well in 3D printed format.

This is neat. I thought while watching it would be good to make, and thought, in wood, since some steels will stain damp cloth and I did not think I could get a neat bend in stainless. Thank you, both.

Hi Philip - Thanks for the comment, this design would work well made from wood, BuffaloJohn's version is great fun. We tend to use it more for oily cloths in our shop so we're OK with steel - you're right though damp cloths would equal rust in the end even with the coat of Owatrol oil we use to finish our bare steel projects (brilliant product, by the way - no affiliation).
