    Oak Machinist Tool Box

I built this solid oak tool box in the early 90's. While it is a "machinist" design I have used it for my electronic tools. It was built from plans that were in Woodsmith Issue 85. The finish is Danish oil and I keep this one in the house!.

One of these has been on my to do list for a while. One of these days, when I can find the time. Yours looks clean, and solid to me.

Nice job, I built the same one a few years ago, and I use it for my machine cutting tools like taps, drills, end mills. Also calipers and mics in the bottom drawer.

    pfredx1,

The plans are quite good in Woodsmith. Interesting magazine. No commercial adds, at least not when I had my subscription.
I always admired the Gerstner built chests and thought it would be nice to have one. I think the plans had a front door but I did not need that so I changed the plans a bit.

    Cheers, John

I have plans for a toolbox someplace. I built one out of scraps a while back. I just winged that one with whatever I had lying around. But I've been meaning to make a proper one to replace it with one day. Here it is in my old garage, when I first finished it http://i.imgur.com/KVkx57v.jpg Today it looks more like this http://i.imgur.com/rgw4mZz.jpg It needs a redo. I put that box together in an afternoon out of whatever. I kind of have an unwritten rule that shop fixtures are made out of garbage. Usually the worst of the worst in fact. Because it is just for me, and I really don't care. But one of these days I'll break that rule, and make myself a decent wooden tool chest.
