Now screw a handle onto that modified nut and you won't have to hunt for a wrench. That's what I did on my lathe.
Not a bad idea on the carriage lock, it doesn't take much torque although the wrench may be in the way.
I have a diminutive Logan with Bed Turret (still inbound), this would be an excellent mod. There are 7 to 9 bolt heads to manipulate in set-ups, some require a few adjustments, before completion.
It's a worthy time, step and labor saver.
