Sliderules have scales that are calibrated 1 to 1(0), i.e, a decade spaced on the logarithms of a decade (hard to express that in print). With that arrangement it's possible to multiply/divide ANY two numbers.
This gadget has scales calibrated with actual numbers, e.g. 588, something that would never be found on a sliderule. This implies that there is a limit on the largest number it can handle.
Note that he keeps referring to it as a "calculator" (which it is), not as a "slide rule".
He shows it can multiply/divide but never mentions whether it can do addition/subtraction which, of course, electronic calculators can do.
So, I think it's a kind of fixed range mul/div calculator, which could be useful if your calculations were confined to a fixed range, a situation that might exist in certain business types.
Nevertheless, it would be handy as a weapon if you worked in a shady business.
